The President's 2009 Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll has Grambling State University's name on it and Tulane University's.
The two Louisiana institutions were among 700 nationwide recognized recently for commitment to service-learning, volunteerism and civic engagement in their respective communities and regions.
GSU was the first school in the University of Louisiana System (its governing body) to establish an Office of Service-Learning and the first to make service-learning a requirement for graduation.
In 2008, the University faculty and staff posted 46,000 volunteer hours and GSU students contributed 101,000 hours to enhancing the community.
